Kinship Fair
GDCYLA is proud to be affiliated with the Kinship Fair, a community service project that serves abused and neglected children in the Greater Denton County area. Along with CASA of Denton County and the Denton office of the Department of Family & Protective Services, GDCYLA coordinates this effort to benefit families and friends that generously make room in their homes and lives so that children may avoid foster care. Unlike foster homes, however, these friends and relatives are not eligible for monthly financial assistance. GDCYLA, CASA, and DFPS identified a need for assistance and the Kinship Fair was born.
On average, more than 60 children and their families are invited to the Kinship Fair every year. The 2011 version, currently scheduled for October 22, 2011, will be the fifth annual Kinship Fair. Texas Woman's University generously provides a venue for the Fair at the beautiful Pioneer Circle. Several local businesses and law firms pledge their support every year. Without them, the Kinship Fair would not be possible.
