TYLA Launches Sexual Assault Survivor’s Guide
By:  Timothy Newman

The Texas Young Lawyers Association has developed a resource for those impacted by sexual assault, launching a new website at notavictim.tyla.org

With reports of sexual assault on the rise, particularly on college campuses, TYLA consulted with Title IX experts and other professionals to provide those affected by sexual assault the tools they need to manage the fallout.  Developed by TYLA’s Public Service Committee, notavictim.tyla.org was thoroughly researched and is chock-full of statistics and guidance for both survivors and those facing allegations of assault.

The site advises survivors of the steps they can take after an assault, including seeking medical assistance, reporting to law enforcement, and navigating the justice system or university administrative process.  It also provides resources and tips for friends and family members supporting a survivor, and it advises those accused of assault of their rights and obligations in judicial and university administrative proceedings.

If you would like a TYLA member to introduce your organization to this new resource, or if you would like TYLA to send promotional cards about the website that you can distribute, call the TYLA office at (512) 427-1529 or (800) 204-2222, ext. 1529.
