Texas Lawyers for Texas Veterans

Texas Lawyers for Texas Veterans is a State Bar of Texas program to develop and assist pro bono legal clinics throughout the state for military veterans who otherwise cannot afford or do not have access to the legal services they need.

The program is a major initiative of 2010–11 State Bar of Texas President Terry Tottenham. “Our military servicemen and women have made great sacrifices in duty to their country,” said Tottenham, a former Marine. “As lawyers, we have the opportunity to make a difference in the lives of a great many veterans — and in the families of soldiers who did not return.”

Veterans legal clinics are the initiative's primary mission.  Thanks to a generous grant from the Texas Bar Foundation, the State Bar of Texas is providing Clinics in a Box to local bar associations and legal aid groups.  Along with the efforts of the State Bar of Texas, TYLA has authored two pamphlets: Resources for Veterans Seeking Help and Resources for Lawyers Assisting Veterans to assist both veterans and the lawyers donating their time to help.
