TYLA Supports Local Veterans
By: Kristy Sims Piazza

To commemorate Veterans Day, the Texas Young Lawyers Association, along with local Waco area young lawyers, participated in the annual Waco Veterans Day Parade on November 11, 2011. The lawyers in attendance included TYLA board members Kimberly Smith, Kristy Sims Piazza, Cameron Cox, Angela Cruseturner and Natalie Koehler, as well as local attorneys Scott Omo, Rebecca Griffin, Spring Thummel, Lewis Giles, Andy Powell, Shannon Brandt, and Baylor Law student Josaphat Plater-Zybert. The lawyers walked in the parade and distributed Texas Lawyers for Texas Veterans resource material to all veterans and family members in attendance.

TYLA Hosts Legal Clinic for Senior Citizens and Veterans.

The TYLA Low Income Texans committee hosted a free legal clinic for senior citizens and veterans at the Golden Hub in Fredericksburg, Texas, on November 17, 2011. The TYLA committee members in attendance included Erin O’Driscoll, Kimberly Smith, Dustin Howell, Lance Currie, Sam Houston, Rebekah Brooker, Kristy Sims Piazza and TYLA President Natalie Koehler. There were also several local attorneys who volunteered their time at the event including Carroll Bryla, Chris C. Schoessow, Gayle D. Schoessow, Jennifer D. Bryla and Sharesa Y. Alexander. The attorneys provided free legal resources to attendees on probate, veterans issues, and seniors and the law. The attorneys also provided free powers of attorney and medical directives for all attendees in need. The clinic had a great turn out and was a huge success. If you or your local affiliate is interested in partnering with TYLA on any clinics in your area, please contact Kristy Sims Piazza for information.
