Editor's Column

Editor's Column

By:  John Shaw

Life moves fast. No matter what we do to try and slow it down, our efforts are of no avail. I’ve noticed this recently for two reasons: (1) It has taken me two weeks to get this editor’s column drafted (Sorry for the delayed publication, it’s my fault. Please see the first sentence of my article.); (2) my son is preparing for his first day of kindergarten (When did he get so old? And, when did I turn into a giant sap?)

I firmly believe that part of the reason life moves so fast has to do with our profession as well. It is not rare for our calendars to be destroyed by the emergency that needs a temporary restraining order by 5 p.m., which you were asked to begin work on at 1:30 p.m. It happened to me this week. There’s nothing that can make a clock move faster than that kind of pressure.

However, regardless of how fast life moves—at least in part due to our profession—young lawyers in the State of Texas are somehow finding time to help the community, share their legal knowledge and experiences in the field, provide tips on how to survive the practice of law, and stay fit (something that I have not really found time for).

Please take time to read and review this month’s eNews, and, for that matter, every month’s eNews. Lawyers across the state work tirelessly to put together meaningful content by writing articles, compiling articles, and editing them for publication. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for all of you who find the time to do so. If you have any interest in participating, please do not hesitate to email me.

Sincerely,
