Introducing the Newest TYLA Student Liaison
By: Latoya Merida

Greetings! My name is Latoya Merida and I am overjoyed to serve as the 2015-2016 student liaison to the Texas Young Lawyers Association Board of Directors. The State Bar of Texas Law Student Division representatives are busy preparing for upcoming membership drives and organizing calendar dates to host informative programs this school year. Also serving as chair for the State Bar of Texas Law Student Division, I, along with the rest of the LSD board, plan to continue the momentum built from last year’s leadership and have another record-breaking year. We will continue to encourage students to sign up for membership and invite them to the programs. Most importantly, we will share the wealth of knowledge and resources that TYLA and the State Bar of Texas have to offer them.

Texas Lawyers’ Assistance Program

Currently, as a student ambassador for Thurgood Marshall School of Law, I have been welcoming the first-year law students by helping with orientation. The Texas Lawyers’ Assistance Program is very relevant when I think about the incoming students. This program offers assistance to lawyers, law students, and judges who suffer from substance abuse and/or mental health issues. This program offers law students crisis counseling, referrals, and peer assistance. If you are a law student and are interested in getting more information, please call anytime at 1-800-343-8527. Your identity and your communications are confidential by statute. Below I have attached PDF resources.
