Preferred Interview Attire: Professionalism Over Style
By. Belashia Wallace

You only have one chance to make a first impression, which usually begins with your attire. I recently attended a law student convention that included onsite interviews. The convention was filled with hundreds of students who had an array of different styles. Many of the female attendees wore dress colors from all facets of the rainbow, while many of the male attendees wore stylish bowtie and sock combinations. Everyone looked amazing, but few were dressed appropriately for a professional interview.

In our TYLA Ten Minute Mentor Goes to Law School series, Assistant Dean Julie Doss of Texas Tech University School of Law provides great insight on the topic of profession interview attire. She states, “When in doubt, make the conservative choice.” Watch her full video by clicking here, which provides examples of preferred interview attire for male and female law students. Remember, we only have one chance to make a first impression, so let’s be sure to make it count.
