MCYLA raising money for scholarship for UTPB
By:  Charity J. H. Rohlfs

The Midland County Young Lawyers Association and Ector County Young Lawyers Association hosted their fourth-annual "Evening with the Judges" event Thursday, October 7th at the Petroleum Club in Downtown Midland. More than 24 federal, state and county judges were in attendance and the Honorable Edward C. Prado, Judge of the United States Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit, served as the distinguished speaker.
Judge Prado spoke on Practical Tips to Improve Your Chances on Appeal. Judge Prado entertained the gathered attorneys and judges with stories which underscored each of his points. The annual event benefited Midland County Young Lawyers Association, Ector County Young Lawyers Association, and Legal Aid of Northwest Texas. In addition, this year's proceeds will go to assist in the Children's Area in the newly built Midland County Courthouse, sponsor a high school student participating in the YMCA's Youth and Government competition, and donate to the Young Associates Scholarship Fund at the University of Texas Permian Basin.
In addition, MCYLA also co-hosted a "Young Associates College Gameday" tailgate networking event in September. Four area young professional groups in Midland joined forces to raise funds for the Young Associates Scholarship Fund at the University of Texas of the Permian Basin.  Midland County Young Lawyers Association, the Young Professionals of Midland, Young Professionals in Energy and the Society of Petroleum Engineers-Young Professionals gathered to cheer on college football teams and network with one another. The event raised funds for the YA Scholarship that go to a working junior-level or higher student with a 3.0+ GPA each semester.  This year's scholarship event raised the most money to date for a deserving UTPB student.
