TYLA Presents “The Little Voice” at the 2010 Partners in Prevention Conference
By: Kristy Sims Piazza

TYLA directors Natasha Brooks and Kristy Sims Piazza presented TYLA’s newest project entitled “The Little Voice – Recognizing Child Abuse and Your Duty to Report It” at this year’s Partners in Prevention Conference held in Round Rock, Texas on October 28th. Conference attendees got a sneak peak of the public service announcement and the video that is currently in production and set for release around January 1st. The project consists of a 30 second Public Service Announcement that will be produced in both English and Spanish and a 30 minute video addressing the duty and the resistance to reporting child abuse, how to identify child abuse and what happens once a report is made. The project is designed to educate the general public, childcare providers, teachers, and parents about child abuse and give them the tools needed to detect and report child abuse. The video features participants such as Victor Rivers, actor and survivor. This project was made possible by a generous grant TYLA received from Texas Bar Foundation.

TYLA will begin rollouts of this project in January 2011. The video will be distributed with targeted pamphlets and pushcards that will cover the material addressed in the video and provide valuable resources. The video will also be posted on the TYLA website. TYLA intends to coordinate with the State Bar Child Abuse Committee, Child Protective Services, and nonprofits across the state on this important project. The project will be showcased during the Child Abuse Prevention Conference and the National Child Abuse Prevention month in April 2011. If you or your local bar would like for TYLA to present this project to a venue near you, go to our website at www.tyla.org and contact us.
