We have some great articles in this month’s eNews. As a first-generation lawyer, I find it inspiring to hear the stories about first-generation lawyers who went on to accomplish great things and become trailblazers in the legal field. This month also features several stories about work being accomplished by local bar affiliates and TYLA throughout the Texas. Almost certainly, the stories of these legal trailblazers and good works by lawyers throughout the state were made possible by the support and guidance of someone in the background.

Maybe you had a parent who encouraged you to follow your dreams, even when you felt like you couldn’t achieve them. Maybe it was a teacher or a coach who took a special interest to develop you. Maybe it was a spouse who worked countless hours to put you through law school, or a partner at your firm who went above and beyond to mentor you. 

No matter your particular situation, there was almost certainly someone behind you supporting and encouraging you along the way. And, oftentimes, these people do not receive the recognition they deserve.

So, this month, I encourage you to think about those people who made a difference in your life, encouraged you along the way, and settled for nothing but your best. If you are fortunate to still have those people in your life, take them for a cup of coffee or dinner and give them a heartfelt thank you. Share a specific example of something they did for you and how it made a difference in your life.
