Amarillo Area Young Lawyers Association Easter Festivities
By: Courtney White

The Amarillo Area Young Lawyers Association hosted its third annual Easter egg hunt on the Potter County Courthouse lawn on the afternoon of April 14. Families in the area’s legal community were invited to hunt for eggs, enjoy sunshine and snacks, and take photos with the Easter Bunny.

The Easter Bunny was selected through a fundraiser where attorneys were encouraged to donate $1 per vote. (AAYLA would like to thank the Texarkana Young Lawyers Association for presenting this event at the Bar Leaders Conference a couple of years ago!) All local attorneys are fair game, and the attorney receiving the most votes appears as the Easter Bunny. This year the Easter Bunny was AAYLA President Shane Brooks, who had the pleasure of wearing the traveling bunny costume.

AAYLA’s annual Bunny Hop 5k followed the Easter egg hunt on the morning of April 15! Participants received bunny ears and AAYLA sport bottles, and the Easter Bunny even made an appearance.

This is a family friendly event with participants of all ages welcome. The Bunny Hop 5k is one of AAYLA’s primary fundraisers, and all proceeds from the race will be donated to Legal Aid of NorthWest Texas.

Courtney M. White is an assistant city attorney for the City of Amarillo. She is currently the AAYLA secretary and looks forward to serving as AAYLA vice president next year.
